Helen Hou, PhD, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory
Please join us in Moore BO3 on Thursday, October 17, 2024, starting at 1:05 p.m., for a colloquium given by Helen Hou, Assistant Professor, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.
Title: How Does the Brain Control Facial Movement?
Abstract: Facial expressions and movements, from grimacing to chewing, are a powerful reflection of our internal states in health and disease. Mice, with discernible facial responses and evolutionarily conserved mammalian facial movement control circuits, provide an ideal model to unravel the link between facial movement and internal states. I will share progress in my lab's quest to map the space of rodent facial movement across individuals and behaviors by developing Cheese3D, a system to sensitively capture rodent whole-face kinematics, and reveal the building blocks and organization principle of neuromuscular control of face by linking neural activity with anatomy.
Coffee, tea, and cider donuts will be available a few minutes before and after the talk in the foyer space outside of Moore BO3.
Events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.
