Study Finds That the Frontal Lobe Plays A Role in Interpreting Visual Data

It has long been understood that the visual cortex is responsible for processing visual information. A team of researchers including PBS Professor Peter Tse, Research Professor Patrick Cavanagh, PhD student Sirui Liu, and GRAD '16 Quing Yu has discovered that although the visual cortex is responsible for processing what we see, the frontal lobe is critical in interpreting the location of objects. This role that the frontal lobe plays is significant because interpretation of visual data is now, surprisingly, shown to be taking place in higher-order brain regions.

The team's recent paper, originally published in Current Biology, was highlighted in Mind Matters.
