Diane Beck, PhD, University of Illinois
Please join us on Friday, April 2, 2021, at 3:30 p.m., for a virtual colloquium given by our Wolfgang Koehler Lecturer, Diane Beck, Professor, Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, University of Illinois.
Title: Prior Knowledge and Natural Scenes and Objects
Abstract: Decades of attention research has emphasized the limited processing capacity of the human visual system. Yet, human beings are surprisingly adept at extracting the gist from natural images, even with extremely brief exposures. How does the brain so quickly categorize such complex and cluttered stimuli? We use behavioral, ERP and multi-voxel fMRI techniques to better understand the representation of natural scenes and objects in the brain. Recently we have become interested in the role of prior knowledge in shaping visual representations.
Zoom details will be forthcoming.
Events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.
